We owe our wisdom to our ancestors, who with great effort and dedication preserved our customs despite the adversities determined to eradicate them. In their honor, we keep our essence alive and transmit it through our political organization, our clothing, our rituals, our language, and especially the stories told by the language of weaving.

Camëntsá Birth

The municipality of San Francisco, located in the great Valley of Sibundoy, north of Putumayo used to have the name of Binchioka, “place where the wind hits”. It is from this canvas of greens that we keep the legacy of our elders alive through the weaving of threads and wool in guanga and chaquira. The symbology that we present in our crafts always accompanies our life as Camëntsá, it speaks to us of what we no longer see, but still feel and think.

As long as there are artisans there will be the history of the Camëntšá people”



Binchioka 

The most traditional and distinctive artisan technique in our indigenous culture Camëntsá is weaving in guanga, and for more than 20 years weaving with chaquiras has been deeply embedded in our culture. We weave the “sayos” and “chumbes” in thread, which are part of our traditional and ritual attire, while with chaquiras, we create accessories and ornaments for masks carved in wood, which represent the visions of yagé.
